The Hawai‘i State Public Library System is pleased to announce the statewide launch of Library Take Out. Starting Tuesday, May 26th, library patrons may now schedule a Library Take Out appointment time to pick up their hold item(s) at their favorite library.
Here’s how it works:
Patrons go to HSPLS Library Catalog and place a hold on any item(s) they want to borrow, or they may call their favorite library branch to place a hold with our staff.
After receiving a notice that their item(s) are ready for pick up, patrons can schedule a Library Take Out time at picktime.com/hspls.
For patrons who placed their holds during the closure, their item(s) are ready for pick up after the patron schedules a Library Take Out appointment time to pick up their item(s).
Library Take Out service is not available at the following libraries: Liliha, McCully, Pearl City and the Hawai‘i State Library. No book donations will be accepted at this time.
Although our buildings remain closed to the public for now, we are excited to offer Library Take Out as a convenient and safe way to access library books and materials. We appreciate the public’s patience as we continue to phase in our library services for the community.

In response to recent guidance around social distancing issued by the Centers for Disease Control and the State Department of Health, the Hawaii State Public Library System has made the difficult decision to close all public library locations for public access effective March 18 – 31, 2020. Bookmobile services will also be suspended. During these uncertain times, the Hawaii State Public Library System thanks the public for their support and patience as we continue to evaluate and adjust our operations because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “SRP” challenges patrons to track how many minutes they are reading! Participates receive prizes, plus entry into drawings to support our local businesses! Join us Saturday to sign up and kick off SRP!

The Library needs your help to make this program a success! We are looking for volunteers to assist with patron sign up and prize distribution. Sign up for 1 or 2 hour shifts on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday 8-5 and Wednesdays 12-7

Many people know that Aloha is a Hawaiian greeting, but fewer people know much about the Hawaiian Language beyond that greeting.
Tonightʻs presenter, Ms. Puamelia Pramuka, has been studing the Hawaiian Language for over five years, and is very knowledgeable about Hawaiiʻs History & Culture.
In tonightʻs speaker program you will learn about the history of the Hawaiian Language, learn about itʻs alphabet, and how to pronounce the letters of the alphabet. You will also learn some common phrases, the Hawaiian names of the Kauaiʻs beaches and mountains. And, perhaps you will also be able to learn a short chant.
